Karimganj (Assam): For years on end, flood and erosion have been causing miseries to thousands of people of Karimganj district in Assam.
The Longai river and its tributaries are posing a serious threat to croplands and hitting day-to-day life.
Worsening Longai river-bank erosion has displaced many families and several kilometres of the area have already been eroded in Karimganj district till date.
It has been learnt that illegal sand mining has led to the Longai river erosion problem in the area.
The people of Karimganj, particularly those who have been living on the banks of the river, Longai, have expressed their strong resentment over the alleged indifferent attitude of the government towards this serious issue.
According to the sources, in the last few years, crore of rupees have been spent on solving the problem, but no positive result has come so far.
