Majuli: World's largest river island Majuli's water has been contaminated with Arsenic and Flouride. The island that has witnessed a rise in the number of cancer patients in recent times has 20 panchayats.
According to reports, 12 out of the 20 panchayats have been found to be contaminated with arsenic and fluoride.
Heavy metal poisoning in Majuli
Local NGO 'Abakakh' are distributing special filters as an attempt to control the situation. The filters designed by Dr Rabin Dutta, a faculty of Tezpur Central University allows people to drink clean water.
In addition, the fact that despite being the chief minister's constituency, Majuli remains aloof of government assistance which continues to bother the locals.
