"However, when the hospital authorities have handed over the body to us for cremation, we saw one of his eyes covered with cotton and a cut mark on his lower abdomen. My brother was suffering from Covid-19 and there is no surgery done on him. So why the eye was covered and cut mark on the abdomen. We tried to see the body properly but GMCH officials asked us not to and cremate it as he was suffering from Covid," said a relative of Saikia.

GMCH superintendent Abhijit Sarma, however, termed this as propaganda and said that the cut mark is not a cut mark but an abrasion probably caused by the chain of the black bag where the covid victims are put before handing it over to the district administration. "We have handed over the body to the district administration and they, in turn, handed it over to the family for cremation. The allegation levelled by the family is baseless," he said. The GMCH Superintendent, however, said that they have also registered a police case in this regard as an allegation of such nature have been levelled by the family.
