Azara (Guwahati): Assam police have arrested as many as 11 youths for impersonating as Indian Army personnel.
Police said that the incident took place at Azara in the vicinity of Guwahati city on late Monday night.
Police said that the eleven youths had been arrested by the police patrol team of the Azara police station.
The fake army personnel were standing as guards on streets near the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport.
The youths later confessed that they were asked to wear the uniform by one Dhiman Krishna.
"Dhiman Krishna identified himself to be a high ranking officer of the Indian Army and contacted the youths. Dhiman told the youths that they were appointed in the Indian Army in the rank of Civil Soldier," said a senior police official.
"We have found the 11 youths patrolling the streets near the airport. They were illegally wearing the Army outfits and identified themselves as men in uniform. We are interrogating them to get further details. The youths had been doing this for more than a month now," he added.
Meanwhile, the family members of the arrested youths alleged that they fell victim to a conspiracy hatched by Dhiman Krishna.
"They are innocent and should be released," said the family members.
