The VHP General Secretary said that the Assam society has always been protectors of cows historically and culturally, it has been a tradition. He added that even a common shepherd in Assam is called 'Gaurakhiya", meaning the person responsible for protecting the cattle. Surendra Jain further said that the most important festival of Assam is Bihu and the first Bihu called Gohu Bihu, which is dedicated to cows. The Assam government has tried to respect those traditions and the sentiments of the people with the new law, so the VHP welcome the initiative.

Condemning the use of the word 'Cow Belt' by some people, the VHP General Secretary said that it is a word started by some mischievous elements. No certain area in India can be known as the 'Cow Belt', but the entire country should take a resolve to protect the cows.

Reiterating Mahatma Gandhi's statement, Surendra Jain said that Gandhiji had said that cow slaughter would be banned in independent India with the first tip of the pen, but today Sonia Gandhi's Congress has become completely opposite to Gandhi's Congress. Mahatma Gandhi used to talk of a ban on cow slaughter but Congress opposes such a ban. But now this will not happen in the country, no matter how much Congress may protest, but the people of the country have moved ahead. Now cow slaughter will not be possible here.
