New political parties shoot up ahead of Assam 2021 polls

New political parties are emerging in Assam ahead of 2021 legislative assembly polls. Anchalik Gans Morcha has been formed by the Rajya Sabha member and noted Assamese journalist Ajit Bhuyan while the Asom Sangrami Mancha has been formed under the leadership of Adip Phukan.

Guwahati: In the wake of upcoming Legislative Assembly election scheduled to be held in 2021, Assam is witnessing the emergence of new political parties.

Anchalik Gans Morcha has been formed by the Rajya Sabha member and noted Assamese journalist Ajit Bhuyan while the Asom Sangrami Mancha has been formed under the leadership of Adip Phukan. Reportedly, All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is also working with cross-sections of the society to form a political alternative.

Prithviraj Rabha, son of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, said that forming political parties in the manner of Bihu communities and self-help groups will prove to be futile. "All need to come together surpassing their linguistic and racial barriers for their efforts to be effective," he added.

"The responsible citizens of the state are anxious about the manner in which different political parties are trying to strengthen the wave of regionalism in the state," Rabha said.

"While all political parties have chosen CAA as their main political mandate, it will not be easy to defeat the ruling BJP. Instead, it may work in favour of the ruling party," a resident of Guwahati elaborated.
