Agartala: Four minor girls were allegedly raped in the outskirts of Agartala city on Sunday night. “All the accused have been arrested within 24 hours and they were taken to court on Monday morning,” said Manik Debnath, investigating officer.
The accused have been identified as Manojit Debbarma(19) of Champaknagar, Bir Kumar Debbarma (21) of Bardhaman Thakurpara, Ripon Debbarma (19) of Bardhaman Thakurpara, Bimal Debbarma(20) of Belpara, Sajal Debbarma (20) of Bardhaman Thakurpara, Chankai Debbarma (19) of Champak nagar and Bishal Debbarma (21). Cases have been lodged against them under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (B), 120 (B), 2 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police officers swiftly acted upon the complaint lodged by victims' family members, as per sources.

Sources said the four girls were invited by their close friends for a trip and they went along with them. According to the statements given to the police, the accused escorted them to a government rubber plantation located in the peripheries of Agartala city. The location was chosen to avoid police interference as curfew measures were in force, as per the allegation.
The minor girls were allegedly raped in the outskirts by the accused in the age group of 19 to 21. The accused fled from the spot leaving the girls grievously injured inside the rubber plantation, according to sources. Later the victims, somehow, managed to reach the main road and hired an auto to reach home.
