Walk in liquor shops to come up in Andhra Pradesh

The state government has announced a new liquor policy for the year 2020-21. The 'walk-in' liquor stores will be set up in major cities, districts and towns.

Amaravati: New liquor malls coming up in Andhra Pradesh will be set up by the state government under the name 'Walk in Shops'. It is reported that 50-100 such malls will be set up in the state. These will be set up in major cities, district centres and major towns.

These are operated by Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL). The state government has announced a new liquor policy for the year 2020-21. The orders were issued by Revenue Department Special Principal Secretary Rajat Bhargava on Friday.

The policy will be in force from October 1 this year to September 30, 2021.

APSBCL plans to keep all brands in the newly set up ‘Walk in Shops’. Existing liquor stores will be removed where these are located. The total number of liquor stores in the state should not exceed 2,934.

Other highlights of the alcohol policy

* 3,500 government-run liquor stores opened on October 1 last year. On May 9 this year, these were reduced to 2,934.

* The same number will continue in the year 2020-21.

* Liquor shops will not be allowed at RTC Bus Stand, Leela Mahal Circle, Nandi Circle, Vishnu Nivasam, Srinivasam, SVRR Hospital and Swims from Tirupati Railway Station to Alipiri.

* Track and trace policy is followed.
