Premium petrol crosses ₹ 100 mark in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur

The price of premium petrol surged past the ₹ 100-mark in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district today. In Guntur district, a litre of premium petrol costs ₹ 100.13, while regular petrol costs ₹ 96.68 per litre.

Guntur (Andhra Pradesh): As fuel prices witnessed a hike for the 12th consecutive day, premium petrol crossed the ₹ 100-mark in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur on Saturday.

In Guntur district, while a litre of premium petrol costs ₹ 100.13, regular petrol costs ₹ 96.68 per litre. In neighbouring Vijayawada, a litre of petrol costs ₹ 96.48, while diesel is priced at ₹ 90.08 per litre.

Premium or additive-laced petrol, which attracts higher taxes, had already crossed the ₹ 100-mark in some places in states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Further, even regular petrol in some places in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh recently crossed the ₹ 100-mark.

Earlier this week, the price of petrol finally breached the ₹ 100-mark in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar for the first time in India.

Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.

Central and state taxes make up for 60 per cent of the retail selling price of petrol and over 54 per cent of diesel.

The union government levies ₹ 32.90 per litre of excise duty on petrol and ₹ 31.80 a litre on diesel.

The relentless hike in prices has been criticised by the opposition parties that demanded an immediate cut in taxes to ease the burden on the common man.
