Visakhapatnam: "You and your brother have a lot of hair. If you don't cut it short, we will book a case against you under cybercrime", when Manikumar, a young man from Bhimunigummam got a call of this sort, he was both terrified and perplexed. But Manikumar was not ready to take any chances because the person on call introduced himself as Circle Inspector of the local police station.
Not only did he cut his hair but he posted his 'new avatar' in WhatsApp also.
But the trouble did not end there, he received a message from the 'circle inspector' again, "Shave your hair". Manikumar obliged again and tonsured his hair while his brother blissfully ignored all these warnings.
However, Manikumar started turning suspicious of this caller and approached the police station to find if there is such a circle inspector calling people to cut their hair.
Police registered a complaint and launched their investigation which soon led to one Machikuri Pandari, a 25-year-old man from Sirgapur Vasan village in Sangareddy district of Telangana. Investigation revealed that Pandari was doing it regularly, calling youngsters with long hair, especially dancers, to cut their hair off threatening them in the guise of various police officers.
It was also found that Pandari used to make prank calls in the past posing as bank officers. However, police are further investigating if Pandari was doing it intentionally or he was mentally disturbed.
