Vishakapatnam: Excise police officers faced the wrath of Bhoithalli villagers during their cannabis fields demolition operation. As per sources, some officers were beaten with sticks by the residents in the area. Furious villagers threatened the officers that their vehicles will be destroyed. Gangaraju Madugula's Deputy Commissioner of Excise Bajirao's attempt to calm them down went in vain.
As part of the operation, 10 teams were formed at Paderu Youth Training Center under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Excise Bajirao. Following government orders, cannabis plantations are being destroyed. The Andhra Pradesh police have chalked out an action plan to curb the cultivation and smuggling of cannabis from Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) and the Agency areas of East Godavari, Vishakapatnam districts, as per reports.
As per reports quoting the Narcotics Control Bureau officials, cannabis is being cultivated in over 40 districts across 17 states in the country. Police officers are clubbing the use of drones, satellite images, and GPS to pinpoint the fields.
