BJP slams AP govt's move to paint panchayat buildings in party colours

The YSRCP government is planning to introduce secretariats in all villages from October 2. The party claims these will be a modern version of the panchayats where one can avail all government services. However, these are struck in controversy, as they have been ordered to be painted in the YSRCP's flag colours through a government order.

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh): The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's move to paint the Grama Sachivalayam's (village secretariat) buildings in the YSR Congress Party flag colours.

BJP spokesperson Lanka Dinakaran on Friday condemned the act and termed it a "misuse of public money".

Dinakaran said, "Is the YSRCP not misusing the public money by colouring the buildings in resemblance to the colours of the ruling party flag? Why are funds being used from the government exchequer."

"The party should have funded the move from their own coffers if they wanted their party colours to be painted on the buildings," he added.

The order in this regard was issued by Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Commissioner, M Girija Shankar, instructing panchayats to paint the buildings in the pattern similar to that of the ruling party's flag.

It also mentions an order to have a photograph of the Chief Minister displayed in the village secretariats.

Dinakar further added, "Most of the regional parties playing dynastic politics are following such trend, the TDP too tried this earlier.

BJP strongly condemns such kind of activities, the public money should be used in the public interest, rather than the parties' personal interest.
