Four TDP MPs resign

The 4 MPs formally joined the BJP

Amaravati: Four Rajya Sabha members of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) - YS Chowdary, CM Ramesh, TG Venkatesh and G Mohan Rao, tendered their resignations on Thursday and switched over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The four MPs submitted their resignation letters to M Venkaiah Naidu, Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman in Delhi.

BJP Working President JP Nadda, Leader of the house in Rajya Sabha Thawar Chand Gehlot and BJP MP from Secunderabad G Kishan Reddy were also present.

The MPs also passed a resolution to merge the Legislature Party of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with the BJP.

Reacting to the development, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu in a statement said, "We fought with BJP only for Special Category Status and the state's interests. We sacrificed Central Ministers for Special Status. Condemn the attempts of BJP to weaken TDP. Crisis is not new to the party. Leaders and cadre have nothing to be nervous about."

The meeting of the MPs with BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi had earlier triggered speculations that they may soon switch loyalties.
