Tokyo: India's Javelin thrower Annu Rani on Tuesday, whose current best is 62.34 that happened at the 2019 Federation Cup in Patiala, failed to qualify for the finals here in Group A qualification event in the Tokyo Olympics.
A bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, she struggled throughout and couldn't even achieve her best.
Group A was topped Maria Andrejczyk of Poland at 65.24 metres following which she earned direct qualification. Annu's best came in the last throw at 54.04.
Attempts
First throw: 50.35 -- Her first attempt saw her at the ninth spot.
Second throw: 53.19 -- She was slightly better in her second throw but it still was not enough, and by the time everyone was done with their second attempt, Rani slipped to the 14th spot.
Third throw: 54.04 -- Annu registered a throw of 54.04m in her third and final throw and she was placed at the 14th spot when the Qualification Group A ended.
Direct qualification is 63.00 and top 12 best advance to the finals. However, these 12 performers will be a compilation of competitors from Group A and B. The Group A qualification round will take place later in the day.
