Tokyo: Indian paddler Manika Batra on Sunday defeated Margaryta Pesotska of Ukraine 4-3 in Women's Singles Round 2 here at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. With this win, she has moved to third round.
The Ukranian won the first two games 11-4, 11-4 convincingly, but Manika came back strongly registering 11-7 in the third game.
She replicated her good performance but the fourth game saw a close contest that ended with Manika winning with 12-10.
The contest stood at 2-2.
The 61-ranked player in the world, however, suffered a defeat in the fifth set, going down 8-11 which was followed by a stellar comeback with 11-5.
The match boiled down to the last set where Batra finished the proceedings in style. The scorecard read: 11-7 in the last set.
