New York: India's Sumit Nagal, who was playing the first Grand Slam event of his career, has been knocked out from US Open on Day 1 after losing to five-time champion Roger Federer.
On Monday, Nagal did give Federer a scare by winning the first set but the 20-time Grand Slam winner prevailed in the end to cruise past into the second round of the US Open.
Nagal seemed confident in the beginning as he won the first set 6-4. However, the Indian was not able to maintain the intensity as Federer came from behind and defeated him 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.
Sumit Nagal had qualified for the US Open main draw on Friday.
