Tokyo: Wrestler Anshu Malik lost to European champion and wrestler from Belarus Iryna Kurachkina on Wednesday in women's freestyle 57kg event here at the Tokyo Olympics.
The third seed player from Belarus got an early lead in the first period and had a lead of 4-0 by the time it ended. She brought in experience with aggression on the mat and Malik had no response for it.
In the second period, Malik did better and earned two points, but it wasn't enough as the grappler lost the match 8-2.
The Asian champion, Malik, had won a silver medal last year at the Individual World Cup.
The Indian wrestling campaign didn’t start on the most promising note in Tokyo with Sonam Malik getting knocked out in the round of 16 on Tuesday.
