  • Two times Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar was again in the news after defeating a spirited Jitender Kumar 4-2 in the 74kg category. Allegations of cheating and foul-play flew thick and fast as two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar booked his berth for the World Championships to be held at Kazakhstan.
  • Prem Kumar Ale pulled off a sensational win on Friday as he defeated top-seed Thomas Wandschneider in three games to progress into the quarter-finals of the BWF Para-Badminton World Championships.
  • With India set to host its second-ever FIFA tournament – the U-17 Women’s World Cup next year, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is leaving no stones unturned in its preparations. To bolster the squad for the World Cup, AIFF has decided to incept a U-17 Women’s League for the upcoming 2019-20 season to recruit a new set of players ahead of the mega event.
  • Swimming their way to glory, A team of six Indian para swimmers have been successful in swimming the Catalina Channel, considered among the most dangerous stretches in the world. They have also set a record in doing so. Their target time was 12 hours but they completed it in 11 hours 34 minutes, setting a record in Asia.
  • South Korea’s Lee Duck-Hee scripted history as he became the first hearing-impaired player to win an ATP Tour main draw match after defeating Henri Laaksonen 7-6, 6-1 in the first round of the Winston-Salem Open. Interestingly, Lee could not hear calls from the line judges or the umpire and relied on signals and gestures for the information.
  • India's Sumit Nagal came from a set down to beat Brazil's Joao Menezes 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the third round of qualifying on Friday to make it to the main draw of the US Open. In the process, Nagal became the youngest Indian in 25 years to qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam.
  • Marnus Labuschagne became the first concussion substitute in Test history as he replaced Steve Smith in the second Ashes Test at Lord's. Earlier, Smith was injured by a Jofra Archer bouncer and was consequently ruled out of the Lord’s Test.
