  • India's star runner Hima Das was on Friday appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The decision was taken by the Assam government. For a fact, Das has been shifted to 200m category from 400m ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. While 400m has been her strength, Das will have to do extremely well for her to qualify for the 200m Tokyo Olympics.
  • England footballer Eric Dier was involved in an ugly confrontation with a fan in the stands following Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup exit to Norwich on Thursday. On Wednesday night after Spurs' 2-3 defeat on penalties, Dier climbed over rows of seats to confront a fan, who had allegedly been involved in an altercation with the player's brother. The security had to intervene and take the player away.
  • The one-year doping ban on former Asian silver-medallist boxer Sumit Sangwan was on Monday lifted after he proved that his intake of a banned substance was unintentional in a hearing conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The suspension, however, cost Sangwan dearly as the 2012 Olympian missed out on appearing for trials for this year's Tokyo Olympics. Sangwan was banned for a year in December 2019 after testing positive for Acetazolamide, listed as a diuretic and masking agent under World Anti-Doping Agency's 2019 Prohibited List.
  • Sports minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday inaugurated first-ever Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg. Around 900 athletes from various disciplines of sports will vie for the top honour in the 5-day event. The winter games are organised by Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council in collaboration with Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
