Brescia (Italy): Ross McGowen finished the Italian Open at the Chervo Golf Club with a scare and a sigh of relief as he claimed his second European Title on Sunday more than a decade after his first.
The Englishman entered the final round alongside compatriot Laurie Canter, three shots clear at the top of the leaderboard, but failed to accelerate his lead.
Two bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine helped reduce the gap as up to eight players were breathing down his neck throughout the 18 holes.
However, he finally found his rhythm on the back nine, with three birdies across six holes and signed for a final-round 72, which was enough to take the victory by one stroke from Canter (72) and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts (68).
