Gulmarg: The inaugural edition of Khelo India Winter Games are taking place here in Jammu and Kashmir. The Games, which focus on ice-related sports, are being a big hit among the local masses. Amid the busy schedule Farhat Naik, a snowboarding coach associated with Jammu and Kashmir team, has given an exclusive interview to ETV Bharat.
During his interview, he said that skiing is more popular than other winter sports played on snow. Thousands of players take part in it at the national level every year but every few people take an interest in snowboarding.
Naik believes with the advent of Khelo India Winter Games snowboarding will steadily become popular among the youth.
Though snowboarding is a well-known sport in winter sports, Naik admitted that "a lot of work needs to be done for the promotion and overall development of the game". He said for the development of the game the primary task will be to ensure basic infrastructure.
At present, participants at the Khelo India Winters Games are facing logistical issues.
