Barcelona star Lionel Messi was presented with his sixth Golden Boot award on Wednesday after scoring 36 goals for the Catalan side in the last season, better than anyone else in the European top divisions.
"I say it again: thank you very much to all of you all for being here. Especially my family, the (club's) board of directors and my team-mates Luis (Suarez) and Jordi (Alba). They are 'guilty' for me being here yet again this year. I always say that without my team-mates I would have never been able to achieve any of this. This award belongs to all of them. They give it to me, but this is a recognition to the whole team. So thank you very much and until the next time," Messi said after receiving the award.
Talking about Champions League, Messi said that Barcelona aim to win the coveted trophy every season but also belives that La Liga is the most important trophy.
"Obviously, the Champions League is something special and we want to win the trophy every season. But we are aware that La Liga is the most important title. Our performance in La Liga results in us doing well in Champions League and Copa del Rey, Messi said.
"It gets very difficult to compete in Champions League if you are not doing well in La Liga. We may always talk about Champions League, but we never forget about La Liga and Copa del Rey. Because we are Barcelona players and our goals is always to win everything," the 32-year-old striker added.
The Argentinian beat PSG forward Kylian Mbappe by three goals and became the first player ever to claim the award for three years in a row.
The ceremony was attended by Messi's wife Antonella Roccuzzo and the award was handed to him by his children Thiago and Mateo.
Messi won his first Golden Boot in the 2009-2010 season and was again Europe's top scorer in 2011-12 and 2012-2013 seasons.
His personal record his 50 goals score in the 2011-2012 season.
