Buenos Aires: Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona will continue to be hospitalized in a clinic outside Buenos Aires, where he is recovering from an operation to remove a blood clot from his brain.

"Diego is recovering as we said, a good post-surgery, the neurological evolution is very good. He presented the symptoms that we detailed yesterday, (abstinence symptoms) so he was applied intravenous drugs of sedation for which Diego responded very well. So it was decided to lower this sedation doses and we have noticed a very good neurological response," Maradona said.

Maradona is currently sedated, and his family agrees with the treatment, according to Alfredo Cahe, Diego Maradona's former personal doctor.

"(Diego's) abstinence is mainly due to the consumption that he had during all his life. We have not defined, specifically, a determined substance, or drink. We saw a reaction of sweating, anger in a moment, and we catalogued it as a syndrome, due to a set of signs and symptoms. And, based on that, we said that he had an abstinence condition. We treated him, we did not let him go, Diego did not agree, we insisted, and well this is what happened."

Maradona underwent a surgery on Tuesday to remove a subdural hematoma, which is an accumulation of blood between a membrane and his brain.
