IPL'19: Dominant KXIP beat MI by 8 wickets

Mohali: Riding on KL Rahul's 57-ball 71 KXIP marched to their second win in IPL 2019 here at IS Bindra Stadium on Saturday. Chasing 177 runs target KXIP defeated MI by eight-wicket.

KXIP got off to a slow but steady start as openers Rahul and Chris Gayle (40) shared 53 runs partnership between them to put their chase on right track.

Later, Mayank Agarwal played 43 runs innings and forged 64 runs partnership with Rahul to led KXIP to their second win.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians batting first set 177 runs target for Kings XI Punjab. Opener Quinton de Kock scored 60 off 39 balls while Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya played 32 and 32 runs innings respectively.

Hardus Viljoen, Mohammed Shami and Murugan Ashwin picked up two wickets each for KXIP while Andrew Tye took one.

While MI didn't make any change to their playing XI as they went with the team that defeated RCB by 6 runs on Thursday hosts KXIP brought in Murugan Ashwin in place Varun Chakravarthy.

7-ball over controversy

The ninth match of the 12th edition of IPL between MI and KXIP on Saturday was marred by another umpiring howler that raised a big question on the standard of umpiring in IPL.

In the very first over of the match, on-field umpire Chris Gaffaney made bowl counting mistake which sparked another controversy during Ashwin's first over.

Ashwin began the proceeding of the match with his off-spin, and just when everybody thought the first over was over, the KXIP captain went back to his bowling mark and bowled the seventh ball of his ball, which was hit for a boundary by MI opener Quinton de Kock.
