Hyderabad: Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who was among thousands struggling in recent Chennai floods triggered by Cyclone Michaung Thursday asked people to take climate change seriously and said everyone needed to be prepared for it.
Ashwin, who has been vocal about the challenges the Tamil Nadu administration faced while dealing with the floods, said everyone considers climate change as "someone else's problem" even though it was "coming for us".
"'I rest my case! We need to value lives and also put a value on our lives. If we don’t expect a certain standard for ourselves, no one else is going to knock on our door and give it to us. &&&&& finally! Climate change is real and make no mistake, all of us that think this is someone else’s problem have to wake up because it’s coming for us and we better be prepared," the veteran India spinner said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Ashwin also posted a scene from a Netflix web series 'Kaala Paani', where Rajesh Khattar, who played the role of Saurabh Wani answers Ketan Kamat's (Amey Wagh) question and says, "Every second day you get to hear that the plastic in the ocean is killing so many dolphins, so many turtles. What exactly do you think? that those who throw plastic on the beach want to kill those creatures? No! They do it because they can do it. That's it! And what environmental buffer zone are you talking about, Kentan Sahib?"

Earlier, the 37-year-old said that he received a heart-breaking response from some senior government officials about the challenging conditions residents of Chennai are braving due to Cyclone Michaung on Wednesday. "Have been speaking to some senior government officials and the stories they are sharing after being on the road for 3-4 days is heart-wrenching, to say the least," stated Ashwin.
