Hyderabad: Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has issued an apology for ‘unintentionally’ hurting the sentiments of some people after he was accused of making a casteist remark on Yuzvendra Chahal.

Yuvraj allegedly made derogatory remarks about the Dalit community during a video interview with his former India and IPL teammate Rohit Sharma in April.

"Ye b****i logon ko koi kaam nahi hai Yuzi ko... Yuzi ko dekha kaisa video daala (these people like Yuzi don't have anything to do... did you see what kind of video Yuzi shared)," Yuvraj was heard as saying during his live Instagram chat with Rohit.

However, after facing the heat on social media for his derogatory comments, Yuvraj on Friday took to Twitter to issue an apology.

The southpaw wrote, “This is to clarify that I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception.”

“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same.

“My love for India and all it’s people is eternal,” the former India all-rounder added.

Noticeably, soon after the video of Yuvraj’s live Instagram chat with Rohit went viral, 'Yuvraj Singh mafi mango' became one of the leading trends on social media. Though Yuvraj was only joking about Chahal during the conversation, fans on social media took offence to his usage of words.

Also, a FIR was subsequently lodged against the retired cricketer as several fans criticised the southpaw for his remarks and Hansi-based lawyer Rajat Kalsan lodged a complaint with local police alleging that Yuvraj had passed a casteist remark against Dalits.

"I request you to press appropriate charges against Yuvraj Singh and arrest him," the complaint had read.
