RCB's journey in the last 11 years has been like a roller coaster ride.

In the first year of the IPL, the team performed miserably under the captainship of Rahul Dravid. They were ranked at the bottom of the table at with Decan Chargers below them.

In the 2nd season, the RCB team turned the table upside down by entering into the final of 2009. Under the captainship of Kumble, the Bangalore based side failed to win the title as DC won the final of 2008

RCB in 2010 and 2011 continue their good run and qualified for the playoffs but couldn't win the cup. Tillakaratne Dilshan, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle changed the fortune of the team in that season. Gayle smashed a century in the very first match for RCB. He then went on to win the orange cap in that season.

RCB failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2012 as they only managed to win 8 matches and CSK moved forward with the same number of wins as they had a better net run rate. A positive thing from this season for RCB was Chris Gayle's form as he retained the orange cap. So far the only batsman to do so.

2012 was also the first time that Virat led the Banglore team.

RCB team management named Virat as the captain of the team in 2013. Gayle in this season smashed one of the most memorable innings, where to he scored 175runs in 66 balls against Pune Warriors India.

2014 RCB team management went on to retain three big guns named Gayle, ABD and Skipper Virat. The team didn't perform up to the expectation as RCB only managed to win 5 games out of 16.

The 2016 edition of IPL was all about Virat Kohli. By this time cricket experts had already named Virat as one of the best batsmen in the international cricket but yet he didn't have a single IPL century till 2015. But Virat while rewriting the IPL history ended 9th edition with 4 centuries and most run by any player in a season of IPL. But RCB failed to win the final of IPL for the 3rd time.

2017 and 18 seasons again saw the downfall of RCB team as the team were rank 8th and 6th in the respective seasons.

RCB under Virat's captaincy and more strengthened bowling attack will look to remove the chokers tag in this edition by winning their maiden IPL title.
