Hyderabad: Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Punjab Police to look into the matter of his relative's murder case. On August 19, unidentified goons attacked Raina's aunt's house in Thariyal village of Madhopur area of Pathankot.
Raina’s uncle Ashok Kumar died on the spot while his son Kaushal succumbed to his injuries on Monday. Three other members of the family were injured, including Ashok Kumar’s wife, Asha Rani, who is reported to be in critical condition.
However, Punjab Police is yet to trace the whereabouts of the murders.
Raina has earlier demanded strict action against the culprits. Since the incident took place, Suresh Raina posted two tweets seeking justice for his family members.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has assured Suresh Raina full proof security and asked the cricketer to come to Punjab to meet his relatives.
On Tuesday, DGP Punjab has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the attack on relatives of cricketer Suresh Raina on the orders of Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh, who is personally monitoring the case.
Raina was supposed to play for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020 in the UAE but he left for India citing family issue. At the same time, 13 members of CSK tested positive for COVID-19. On Tuesday, however, the test result of all the members of the CSK franchise has come negative. These two incidents believed to have determined him to withdraw his name from the IPL 2020.
