ICC U-19 WC: Yashasvi Jaiswal fulfills his father's wish by scoring ton against Pakistan

India opener Jaiswal scored 105 off 113 balls to lead India to 10-wickets win against Pakistan in the first semi-final of ICC U-19 World Cup.

Potchefstroom (South Africa): Yashasvi Jaiswal on Tuesday scored a sublime century as India thrashed Pakistan by 10 wickets here to book a place in the final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup.

In what is the first-ever 10-wicket win in knockouts of the U19 World Cup, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century as he and opening partner Divyaansh Saxena helped India chase down a target of 173 without losing a wicket.

After the bowlers dismissed Pakistan for a paltry 172, Jaiswal (105*) led the way with Saxena (59*) playing second fiddle.

Jaiswal's century, and India's winning runs, came with a six in the 36th over off Aamir Ali over deep midwicket. It was the fourth six of his innings which also included eight fours.

Interestingly, Yashasvi not only led India to victory but also fulfilled his father's wish with a brilliant century.

Ahead of the crucial semi-final clash between the arch-rivals, Bhupendra Jaiswal, Yashasvi's father expressed his desire to see his 18-year-old son score a century against arch-rivals Pakistan.

"I told him to register a win over Pakistan and you have to make a century today. We all hope that he will make a century and beat Pakistan," Bhupendra told media ahead of the match.

Yashasvi's father said he wants his son to feature in the Indian cricket team and make the country proud.

"He has worked really hard and we want him to feature in the Indian cricket team and make the country proud," he said.

Yashasvi has played five games and scored 312 runs in the premier tournament so far with an impressive average of 156. The 18-year-old batsman has smashed one century and three fifties till now.

Meanwhile, India will now face either Bangladesh or New Zealand whose semi-final match will be played on Thursday. The final is scheduled to be played on Sunday.
