London: England spinner Jack Leach said he thought he might have had coronavirus on the team's recent tour of South Africa.
"I do kind of wonder if I had it in South Africa, I guess we'll never know. But if you had those symptoms that I had in South Africa now you'd be like 'oh, this is definitely coronavirus'," Leach said on Sunday.
Leach was forced to fly home after suffering from flu-like symptoms - he also suffers from Crohn's Disease which he says, puts him at higher risk of contracting coronavirus.
It was a miserable winter for Leach, who had severe food poisoning on the tour of New Zealand, which turned into sepsis. To make matters worse, Leach tore his calf in South Africa.
Leach and the rest of the 30-man England squad are quarantined in a bio-secure environment at Southampton's Ageas Bowl ahead of next month's Test series against West Indies.
Talking about the bio-secure environment, Leach said, "It's a bit different to usual obviously and takes a bit of getting used to I guess. It feel like we've gone back ten weeks or so and it's all very strict and probably more strict than on the outside. Definitely more strict than Bournemouth beach. (English beach packed with people on Thursday ignoring social distancing guidelines) It's kind of exactly like it says on the tin, like a bubble. Social distancing, we've got our masks and we're just spending lots of time in our room in between and then obviously we started training again yesterday and it was great to get back out there and yeah, just keeping our distance I would say."
