Perth: Ashton Agar of Australia is enjoying a second-wind in cricket. After making a sensational debut in Test cricket at the age of nineteen against traditional rivals England, where he made a blistering 98 after coming in as the last batsman, Agar has sort of slipped out of the spotlight.

However, Agar, who is left-handed spinner, clawed his way back into the national team with impressive performances in white-ball cricket and recently, he secured a Cricket Australia annual contract for another year

Meanwhile, Agar said that he is highly inspired by Indian star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and wants to be like him.

"Yeah, there's no secret that I look up to (Ravindra) Jadeja. I made that known after I got that hat-trick in South Africa. I just love the way he plays his cricket. It's as simple as that. He goes out there, backs himself in every situation and clearly loves the spotlight,” Agar said.

“He (Jadeja) looks like he enjoys cricket all the time, especially on the biggest stages. And then in terms of how to best to go about cricket in India as a left arm spinner, it's hitting the stumps all the time, hitting a consistent length that you can't get step and hit over your head and mixing up your pace a bit from there. Something he does really well and something I feel like I'm doing really nicely, too, at the moment," he added.

Earlier, in February, Agar returned the best bowling figures for an Australian bowler in a T20 international - when he claimed 5/24 against South Africa in Johannesburg.

After that performance, Agar said he would like to emulate Jadeja.

"I had a wonderful chat with Ravindra Jadeja after the India series. I was pretty inspired by talking to him. He's my favourite player in the world -- I want to play cricket like he does," Agar said after the match against South Africa.
