Manchester: England skipper Eoin Morgan opted to bat first after winning the toss in the second One Day International match of three-match ODI series vs Australia, here at the Old Trafford on Sunday.
Australia have taken a lead of 1-0 after winning the tournament opener by 19 runs. And when Morgan-led outfit would face Aaron Finch and co on Sunday they would look to level the series by winning the second ODI and taking the limited-overs series to a decider.
Former Australian skipper Steve Smith is missing from the playing XI as a precautionary measure, according to the cricket Australia.
"Steve passed both assessments, but we have decided to rest him as an extra precaution in line with our high level of focus on duty of care to all players," the board said in a statement.
Meanwhile, England made a couple of changes in their playing XI from last game, Moeen Ali has been left out while the Curran brothers (Sam and Tom) have been included.
At the toss, Finch said, "Would've batted too, it's a used wicket. Going with the same team, Starc has pulled up fine. He's a professional and loves a contest. The way we fought back in the middle overs was really impressive. Then the first 10 overs we bowled really well."
Morgan said after winning the toss, "Wicket's the same that was used the other day. Might potentially get worse this afternoon. Didn't spin as much as we thought. But if you hit the right areas no matter what the bowler, it did a bit. Sam in for Wood, who hasn't pulled up as we'd have liked. Leaving Moeen out a tactical change."
