Kolkata: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president and former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly suffered a "mild" heart attack and is undergoing "primary angioplasty" at a city hospital, doctors said.
The former skipper has been admitted to the ICU in the Woodlands Hospital and is stable.
"He had faced the same problem yesterday where he complained of chest and back problem. He also had a blackout in the gym following which he fainted. He was then taken to the hospital," a source told ETV Bharat.
Later, the CEO of Woodlands hospital Dr Rupali Basu said the 48-year-old is out of danger and is undergoing angioplasty.
"Mr Sourav Ganguly, 48 years old, President BCCI, former Captain of Indian Cricket team and eminent personality suffered from chest discomfort while doing tread mill at his home gym. He had family history of IHD ØE Ischemic heart disease. When he came to the hospital at 1pm, his pulse was 70/min, BP 130/80 mm of Hg and other clinical parameters were within normal limits. His ECG showed hyper acute ST segment elevation in inferior leads and lateral leads. Echo showed mild inferior wall hypokynaesia with preserved overall left ventricular function. He is stable haemodynamically. He has received loading doses of dual anti platelets and statin and is undergoing primary angioplasty now," Dr Rupali Basu MD & CEO, Woodlands, said.
"Mr Ganguly is undergoing primary angioplasty now. We are yet to decide on how many stent insertion is required for Mr Ganguly," a doctor at Woodlands Hospital told PTI.

According to an earlier account attributed to a doctor at the same hospital, he had suffered a cardiac arrest. A sudden cardiac arrest is when the heart malfunctions and stops beating unexpectedly.
A heart attack is a circulation problem and sudden cardiac arrest is caused due to an "electrical" issue. Primary angioplasty, also called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), is a procedure that treats blockages within the coronary arteries and improves blood flow to the heart.
The doctors at the hospital said Ganguly felt chest discomfort while doing treadmill at his home gymnasium. He has a family history of Ischemic Heart Disease, a condition of recurring chest pain or discomfort that occurs when a part of the heart does not receive enough blood. This condition occurs most often during exertion or excitement, when the heart requires greater blood flow.
