17-year-old cricketer dies while playing match in Anantnag

Srinagar: A 17-year-old cricketer named Jehangir Ahmad War, on Thursday dies after a ball hit his neck during a cricket match between Budgam and Baramulla. The match was played at Nanil area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday.

Jehangir Ahmad War was the son of Farooq Ahmed War of Goshbugh Pattan Baramulla. The young batsman was a student of class 11th at Government Higher Secondary School Goshbugh Pattan, Baramulla.

The cricket tournament is organised by the Youth Services and Sports Department in the area.

Talking about Jehangir, Saleem-Ur-Rehman, Director General (DG) Youth Services and Sports Department, said that the batsman suffered injuries and fell unconscious after the ball hit him. However, he also clarified that the 17-year left-handed batsman was equipped with all protective gears including a helmet.
