Exclusive: Shuttler Chirag Shetty confident of securing Olympic berth

Chirag also highlighted the difficulties of working out at home rather than going to the gym.

Hyderabad: Young and rising Indian doubles badminton star Chirag Shetty on Monday has a special chat with ETV Bharat regarding the situation in Mumbai due to coronavirus, Tokyo Olympics and about his men's doubles partner Satwikaairaj Rankireddy.

Talking about his workout during the lockdown, Chirag said, "I do a one-hour session in the morning, which also include Yoga and breathing exercises. After that, I do some workout and exercise. I also work for one hour in the evening from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm."

Chirag also highlighted the difficulties of working out at home rather than going to the gym.

"It is very difficult to work at home. I am a very outgoing person, I travel a lot as there are so many tournaments. Now it has been almost two months since the coronavirus forced lockdown and it has been very difficult."

Shetty also said that he is hoping that all this will be over soon.

Talking about badminton, Shetty said, "I cannot play much at home. In the beginning, I used to play a lot on the terrace. But it is not possible to play a proper badminton match at home."

Talking about his men's doubles partner Satwiksairaj, Chirag said, "We are very good friends. And in my opinion, it is very necessary to be friends outside the court to understand your partner better on the court. We often talk with each other on phone and WhatsApp."

Chirag also revealed that Satwiksairaj is able to train outside too as the situation in Andhra is better than Mumbai.

Talking about now postponed Tokyo Olympics, Shetty said he was very disappointed with the news as they were on the verge of booking their spot in the Summer Games.
