Hyderabad: India's chief badminton coach Pullela Gopichand on Monday in an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat said that the performance of Indian shuttlers, who participate in singles event, is of major concern. He also gave his opinion on the schedule of badminton tournaments.
Talking about the hectic schedule of badminton events, Gopichand said that he along with a few international coaches had written to BWF regarding their concern. However, the 46-year-old also accepted that it is very unlikely that BWF will accept their demands.
When asked if India is becoming a sporting nation, Gopichand said, "Yes, I believe that. People are taking more and more interest in sports from the last few years. And it is all possible because of the support of the Government of India."
Gopichand, however, also opined that there is still a lot that is needed to be done. He also said that the last decade was good for sports in India.
Talking about the importance of sports in our daily life, Gopichand said, "It is important that we participate in sports every day."
