Hyderabad: Disney+ Hotstar web series The Empire which was earlier named Moghul, is touted to be one of the grandest shows ever created in India. While a section of media and critics are calling it India's answer to HBO's highly popular show Game of Thrones, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam is demanding ban on the series.

Kadam on Friday has demanded a ban on the web series The Empire. The politician opines that the show glorifies the Islamic invaders. Taking to his Twitter handle, Ram Kadam has shared a video wherein he is seen saying that the show is hailing barbaric Moghuls. He also touched upon filmmaker Kabir Khan's latest views on how films are demonizing Mughals.

This is not the first time when Ram Kadam has raised objections against the content of OTT platforms. Earlier this year, he staged a protest march in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area against Saif Ali Khan starrer Tandav. He had also lodged a complaint against the makers of the show.

For unversed, Kabir Khan recently received wrath from social media when he spoke about the depiction of the Mughals in Hindi cinema. In a virtual session for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival's Dial M For Films, Kabir had said, "What really makes me upset is that it’s being done just to go with the popular narrative. I can understand when a filmmaker has researched something and a filmmaker wants to make a point… Of course, there can be different viewpoints. If you want to demonise the Mughals, please base it on some research and make us understand why, why they were the villains that you think they were."

Coming back to The Empire, the web series is a fictional saga of a warrior-turned-king based on books by Alex Rutherford, a pen name of two authors, Diana Preston and her husband Michael Preston. They are known for the six-book historical fiction series Empire of the Moghul.
