Netizens call for ban on Ashram web series, seek arrest of Prakash Jha

Prakash Jha's web series Ashram has stirred social media storm yet again. Fuming with anger, netizens are calling for a ban on the web series for defaming Hindu saints and culture. Along with floating #BanAashramWebseries on Twitter, the netizens are seeking the arrest of Jha for his alleged "anti-Hindu intentions."

Hyderabad: Filmmaker Prakash Jha's web series, Aashram, is facing the wrath of social media for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments. Twitterati are seeking a ban on the series and arrest of Jha for defaming Hindu faith.

When the first season of Ashram released on MX Player in August this year, Prakash had released a disclaimer video to avoid offending sentiments of any sect or community saying that they respect all Gurus and their establishments, they respect all religion and people’s faith. However, the netizens are apparently not keen to take the disclaimer seriously.

#BanAashramWebseries has been keeping a section of social media busy from today morning. The outrage on social media on Bobby Deol starrer show is growing consequently #BanAashramWebseries is among the trending topics on Twitter from early morning.

While some called it a conspiracy to end Sanatan Hinduism, others called it an effort to defame Hindu Saints and culture. The voices on social media are raising concern over the presentation of apparent Hinduphobic themes in cinema and digital content.

In November, Karni Sena slammed legal notice to Ashram makers on the ground of "directly targeting the ancient tradition, custom, culture of Hindu, Ashramas Dharma". Hitting back to the notice, Jha had then said, "Who am I to make a judgment on their demand? We had 400 million-plus views for the first season. I think viewers are the best placed to decide on ‘negative goodwill’. Shall we leave it to them?"

Besides Bobby, the series also stars Aaditi Pohankar, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Darshan Kumaar, Anupriya Goenka, Adhyayan Suman, Tridha Choudhury, Vikram Kochhar, Tushar Pandey, Sachin Shroff, Anuritta K Jha, Rajeev Siddhartha, Parinitaa Seth, Tanmaay Ranjan, Preeti Sood, Jahangir Khan, Kanupriya Gupta and Navdeep Tomar in pivotal roles.

After a successful run of the first season, the second season of the show, titled Aashram: Chapter 2 - The Dark Side, released on November 11.
