New York: Since playing a boy wizard in eight Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe has played a corpse, an FBI agent who goes undercover in a group of white supremacists, and now in the film Guns Akimbo, a man who wakes up to find guns attached to his hands.

It's a varied body of work he says that's the point.

"At the moment I have a huge amount of autonomy over my career and I'm able to go, 'I just want to work on things that I think will make me happy to work on and also something I will enjoy watching,'" said Radcliffe.

In Guns Akimbo, an underground group known as Skizm livestreams real fights to the death. Radcliffe's character is a computer programmer who is so against Skizm, he goes online to troll it. The group retaliates by drugging him and attaching guns to his hands. He wakes up to find he's suddenly a part of the game and being hunted by an assassin, played by Samara Weaving.

The plot is intense but Radcliffe was drawn to the physical challenges and comedy that came with the role.

"I read the thing about guns for hands and I was like, 'OK, I'm interested. What are you doing with this premise,'" recalled Radcliffe.

Guns Akimbo opens Feb. 27 in Russia and Feb. 28 in the United States, Australia and Iceland.
