Taipei: Taiwanese horror movie Detention became the winner at the annual Taipei Film Festival, taking home six awards.
The movie won the Grand Prize of NT$1,000,000 (33,965 U.S. dollars), Best Narrative Feature, Best Actress, Best Art Design, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Design.
Detention is set in a backdrop of the White Terror era in Taiwan, a time when people's freedom of speech and basic rights were suppressed by the government.
Film's co-producer Lee Lieh said: "We already won the Best Narrative Feature award. I was already satisfied about that. So when they announced that we won the Grand Prize award, no kidding, I had goosebumps all over me."
"I was wondering 'What should I do now? What should I do?' This was completely unpredicted. I am so grateful," stated co-producer Lee Yao-hua.

Young Taiwanese actor Gingle Wang, who was awarded with the Best Actress award for her role in Detention said: "This is a very good encouragement for me. In some way, this gives me lots of confidence."

Besides Detention, Chang Jung-chi's We Are Champions won three awards - Best Director, Best Cinematography and Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution.
"When I heard the news, especially this year, during the epidemic, the pace of my work was forced to slow down," said Chang Jung-chi, further adding, "This comes to me like a friend patting my shoulder and saying, 'hang on there'. When I heard that I was nominated, I felt very much encouraged."
The Taipei Film Festival is the first award ceremony to be held in Taiwan since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. During the festival, participants did not have to wear surgical masks.
