Washington: A New York jury on Monday convicted former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of criminal sex act and rape, US media reported.
Weinstein has been convicted of criminal sexual assault in the first degree, based on the testimony of Miriam Haley and rape in the third degree, based on the testimony of one-time aspiring actor Jessica Mann, according to reports.
He was, however, found not guilty of the more serious charges of predatory sexual assault and of rape in the first degree.
The verdict was hailed as important turning point in the #MeToo movement, but Weinstein's attorneys called it a failure of the justice system and said their client never had a chance at a fair trial.
The disgraced movie mogul faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of more than two decades in prison. He was handcuffed and taken into custody after the New York jury's verdict.
