Playback singer Usha Uthup has expressed grief over the death of SP Balasubrahmanyam. The 72-year-old broke down in tears while reminiscing the fond memories of the late musician.

Kolkata: Versatile singer Usha Uthup has expressed grief over the unfortunate demise of SP Balasubrahmanyam.

The 72-year-old songster broke down while speaking about the departed soul.

Opening up to ETV Bharat, the Hari Om Hari crooner said: "I can't bear his death news. SP Sir passed away too early. It's my loss. Our industry has suffered a loss. He was not just a great singer, he was an amazing person. I have never come across such a good man before."

On the work front, Usha Uthup had collaborated with SP Balasubramaniam several times. She feels grateful for having the opportunity to work with the musical genius.

"It was God's blessings on me that I was able to do so many shows with him. I had sung a duet with SP Sir in the beginning. Actor MGR was also present at that time. It was in 1969. I have known him since then," she said.

Recalling an incident from the past, the Ramba crooner shared: "It's a big loss for me. My son had a kidney transplant at a hospital in Cochin. I was at the hospital when I called SP Sir. He was there for a program. Following the call, he met me and sang a few lines for my daughter. My son was asleep. I will never forget the incident."

Fondly known as Balu, SP Balasubrahmanyam breathed his last on September 25, 2020. He was admitted to MGM hospital on August 5 after the musician experienced 'mild' symptoms of COVID-19.
