Los Angeles: Before she became known in the U.S., Priyanka Chopra was a Bollywood superstar. The actor's new movie, The Sky is Pink, is in Hindi with English subtitles. It's based on the true story of a couple whose daughter is diagnosed with a terminal disease.
Priyanka shot for the film before her wedding with Nick Jonas. The film was emotionally draining and while sharing some behind the scene stories, PeeCee said that the team captured the wedding scene and the funeral of Priyanka and Farhan Akhtar's on-screen child on the same day. The actor said that they had to emote extremely contrasting emotions for those two scenes.
"Everything that I am I learned in the Hindi movie industry. That was my acting school, that was who I am. I hadn't done that for about three years because I was working so much here that now I wanted to be able to cross-pollinate. I wanted to be able to see the American audience that knows me to even see the other side of me which is a Hindi language film, but I feel like this movie transcends borders, it transcends language because it's such a universal story. It's basically about a real-life family like yours or mine and I just thought this was the right movie to be able to straddle both worlds."

Chopra says she believes the film, although sad, is also inspiring.
"It's based on a real-life couple, it's based on a real-life family who ends up thriving in such turbulent circumstances. Usually, that's something that would like push you down or you wouldn't know how to get out of something when you find out that your kid has just a few years to live but they had such a joyous perspective towards life."
The Sky is Pink opens Oct. 11 in both the United States and India.
