Her shocking views didn't stop there as she further responded to a tweeted which read, "Raja Ram Mohan Roy Was Social Reformer & Founder of Brahmo Samaj Movement.

He launched Movement for Abolition of Sati."

Re-tweeting the post, Rohatgi slammed the social activist calling him a 'chamcha' of the British who defamed the Sati tradition.

  • No he was a chamcha to Britishers who used him to defame the Sati tradition. Sati tradition was not compulsory but was introduced to prevent the prostitution of Hindu wives by the hands of Mughal invaders. It was the woman’s choice. #FeministsofIndia Sati was not regressive 🙏 https://t.co/sALLK2lALF

However, her callous views didn't go down well with the Twitterverse as she was heavily trolled for her insensitive tweet about Raja Ram Mohan Roy.

  • She’s gone crazy . All she needs is popularity. She should’ve acted better on screen .

  • Something is fundamentally wrong with u, if u feel saying truth is equivalent to spreading hatred. If invaders came to our country & did havoc, u think mentioning that is spreading hatred? Truth is the exception of defamation under section 489. U don't even know the law kiddo.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy was a social reformer and one of the founders of Brahmo Samaj Movement. He abolished the evil practice of Sati prevalent during the British rule. He also took efforts to end child marriage.

Well, this is not the first time that Payal has outburst on Twitter. The actress is quite active on the opinion-sharing app and often shares her bold political views.

Recently, Payal also raged controversy for asking of change in the names of streets named after Mughal emperors in India.

Earlier, Rohtagi also took a dig on filmmaker Anurag Kashyap questioning the authenticity of his complaint of an anonymous social media account who threatened his daughter of rape.
