Music fraternity mourns demise of legendary vocalist Pandit Jasraj

Tributes poured in from the music fraternity for the legendary classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj who breathed his last on Monday. Several musicians including singer Lata Mangeshkar, lyricist Javed Akhtar, and others took to social media to mourn his demise.

Mumbai: Members of music fraternity mourned the demise of music legend Pandit Jasraj in the US. Celebrities including singer Lata Mangeshkar, lyricist Javed Akhtar, and others paid their tributes to the Indian classical vocalist and described his passing away as an irreparable loss to India and its cultural heritage.

Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar posted on Twitter," Mahan shashtriya gayak aur maa Saraswati ke upasak Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj ji ke swargwas ki khabar sunkar mujhe aseem dukh hua."

Asha Bhosle is saddened by the demise of the iconic Indian classical vocalist. In a statement released by the 86-year-old singer, she expressed sorrow over the demise of her "big brother" and legendary musician.

"#RIPPanditJasraj Indian classical music has lost one of its shining stars," tweeted Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman.

Music composer Vishal Dadlani, on the other hand, extended condolences to "music itself" on the demise of the music maestro.

"Just heard of the passing of the Legendary #PanditJasraj Ji. My condolence to music itself, and to every musician on the planet. A truly monumental loss," he tweeted.

Senior lyricist Javed Akhtar in his tweet expressed sorrow over the country's loss of the "huge pillar of Hindustani" music.

Senior musician Anup Jalota said that the demise of the legendary Hindustani classical vocalist is a big loss to Indian classical music.

The legendary musician passed away at the age of 90 on Monday in New Jersey.

Pandit Jasraj whose career in music spanned over 80 years belonged to the Mewati Gharana. He is a recipient of several accolades including the prestigious Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
