Hyderabad: Actor-model Milind Soman's wife Ankita Konwar has expressed her views on racial discrimination against people from the Northeast. Calling out "hypocrites" who are celebrating weightlifter Mirabai Chanu's silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Ankita took to her social media handles and stated that India is 'infested' with 'racism.'
Ankita, who hails from Guwahati, in her latest social media post wrote, "If you’re from Northeast India, you can become an Indian ONLY when you win a medal for the country. Otherwise we are known as “chinky” “Chinese” “Nepali” or a new addition “corona”. India is not just infested with casteism but racism too. Speaking from my experience. #Hypocrites."

Konwar's post has elicited mixed reactions from netizens. While some, who claimed of having gone through similar experiences have resonated with what she has to say, others, however, underlined India's unity in diversity.

When a user commented on Ankita's post and wrote, "One two untoward incidents don't give the whole picture," Ankita replied, "Hahahahahahaha stay in your delusional world. No one cares until it’s affecting them."
Ankita's comment has come at a time when the country is celebrating Olympic Silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu while the cased of harassment against Northeast people in metropolitan cities continues to rise.
For unversed, Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar got hitched in 2018. The couple was subjected to immense trolling at the time of their marriage as they have an age gap of 26 years.
