Hyderabad: Actor Kartik Aaryan is facing the pressure of him being compared to a superstar like Akshay Kumar ever since he signed the sequel of Akki's 2007 release Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Recently, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 director Anees Bazmee too was asked to comment on Kartik's acting prowess and whether he is anywhere near to Akki from the film directed by Priyadarshan.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 got announced in 2019 and as soon as the casting of Kartik and Kiara Advani headlining the film made headlines, the netizens had taken the social media by storm as they feel that the actors who have been cast in the sequel, will not be able to do justice to the magic created by Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in the original film, released 12 years ago. In fact, most said they don't even want a sequel to the 2007 horror-comedy to happen.

The comparison and criticism continue till today. Aneez in chitchat with a webloid was asked if Kartik is as good as Akshay Kumar in the first Bhool Bhulaiyaa film. To which Anees replied, "I had nothing to do with Bhool Bhulaiyaa with Akshay Kumar. So I wouldn’t know."
Sidestepping the compassion queries, Anees heaped praise on Kartik and said he is a pleasure to work with. "Kartik is always on time, always professional, never any tantrums. Kartik has a smile for everyone. Having him on the set brings very pleasant vibes into the process of shooting. We need that positivity right now.”

Bhool Bhulaiyaa, directed by Priyadarshan was an official remake of the 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. The film also featured Ameesha Patel, Paresh Rawal, Manoj Joshi, Asrani, Rajpal Yadav and Vikram Gokhale. Vidya's performance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa is still considered iconic and regarded as one of her best to date.
