Hyderabad: Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone has resigned as Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) chairperson. The actor has cited her slate of work as the reason behind her decision to step down from her position at MAMI.
On Monday morning, Deepika released a statement announcing her resignation from the post of MAMI chairperson. The actor, who served as the head honcho for nearly two years, has also said that stint at MAMI was 'enriching' for her and the connection she shared with the academy will last a lifetime.
Sharing the statement, Deepika wrote, "Being on the board of MAMI and serving as Chairperson has been a deeply enriching experience. As an artist, it was invigorating to bring together cinema and talent from all over the world to Mumbai, my second home."

She further revealed that her current projects are so demanding that she won't be able to devote time to MAMI.
"I have come to realise, however, that with my current state of work, I will be unable to give MAMI the undivided focus and attention, it requires. I depart knowing that MAMI is in the best hands possible and that my bond and connection with the academy is one that will last a lifetime," Padukone condluded.
Deepika was appointed as MAMI chairperson in 2019 by replacing Kiran Rao.
