Mumbai: The trailer of Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey's upcoming film Chhapaak got unveiled today.

As reported earlier, Chhapaak, directed by Meghna Gulzar is inspired by acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

The just-dropped trailer hits the bull's eye as it strikes resonance with how most Indian women and girls are feeling these days.

Chhapaak trailer unfolds a daunting personal journey of an acid attack survivor who later picks up the pieces of her half-burnt body and soul to fight for the justice.

After Raazi, Gulzar yet again comes up with a nuanced tale as attempts to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India. Going by the trailer, Chaapaak mirrors the medico-legal-social state of affairs that transpires after the acid has been hurled and the face is irreparably burnt.

The trailer is filled with moments of terror, fear, humiliation, self-acceptance which inculcate the confidence in the survivor and help them finding beauty in the burns.

Deepika, film's leading lady and co-producer, steals the show with her portrayal of Laxmi, who over the years has been vocal about her experience and actively campaigns against acid attacks.

Chhapaak is a glowing example of celebrating scars and colour brushing aside feminine beauty ideals. With the film, Deepika proudly joins yesteryear divas Zeenat Aman and Rekha, who too essayed strong women with disfigured faces in films.

On her role, Deepika had said earlier: "It's a very important story and it's a true life incident, so hopefully good things will come out of it."

The trailer looks promising and kudos to Deepika for backing such sensitive story over a safe film as her maiden production.

Shot mainly in Delhi and Mumbai, Chhapaak will hit the big screens on January 10, 2020.
