Hyderabad: Boney Kapoor has opened up on how cyclone Tauktae has spelt a deep dent in his pocket as a humungous set of his upcoming production Maidaan lays battered by the worst cyclone that hit India's west coast in over 20 years on May 17.

According to reports, so far, Boney has spent Rs 22 crores only on the set of Ajay Devgan starrer Maidaan. The filmmaker will have to shell out an additional Rs 7 crores to rebuild the set destroyed by the cyclone.

Talking about the huge loss, Boney told a leading daily, "What I am going through is horrible. I don’t want to be reminded of it. If I think about the pressure or feelings or loss, I will start crying. If I think about the budget overshooting and expenses pilling up, I might go into depression. Mera dil hi nahin kar raha ke set dekhu abhi.(I don’t even feel like looking at the set right now)."

Kapoor further added that when they had to dismantle the set last year due to COVID-induced lockdown, they could reuse the materials but after destruction in a cyclone, hardly anything is salvageable.

"I had eight make up rooms, 26 bathrooms, different sets- but most of it is gone. We had an eight-camera setup and specialised equipment to capture players while playing," said Boney.

Recently the makers of Maidaan quashed rumours that they were considering putting the film up for pay-per-view digital release. A statement issued on behalf of the film's producers Boney, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta denied any such possibility, at least for now.

Syed Abdul Rahim coached and managed the national team from 1950 till his death in 1963, and is considered by many as the man who changed the face of modern Indian football.

Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, the film is slated for a Dussehra release this year. Also starring Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh, Maidaan is expected to release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
